Well That Didn't Last Long!

Image
Today, in the spirit of authenticity, I bring you this moment: My son sees some books.   He’s very excited for these books.   He looks so adorable looking at the books.   He points.   He coos.   He smiles.   This lasts for a complete four seconds.   He crawls away to get the better of some house plants.   Goodbye books – see ya later! I guess good thing I’m fast with a camera!   We’ll keep trying for reading that’s longer than the blink of an eye. #AnitaVP #realtalk #reading #readmore #baby #parenting #littlecritter

Pure Internet Gold & Technical Difficulties

Image
I feel like this photo is a phenomenal internet meme in the making.  At a loss for what's really the right caption, as there are too many options.  Open to all suggestions.  Nonetheless, this is pure gold.  (And he is adorable.) Of all ironic things, on the day when I believe I have captured the world wide web's next greatest meme photo, I run into technical difficulties.  I bring my humble offering as payment in return to the internet gods, and they cast me out.  Geez!  Harsh, cold, cruel inter-world. Perhaps it's not to late.  Perhaps it is.  So much in life is all just a matter of timing! #AnitaVP #parenting #baby #nakedbaby #meme #puregold #nsfw

Self-Editing: Quick Tips & Fixes

Today, I bring to you something slightly different, inspired by my years of working as an editor in corporate America: Have something short that you’re writing in a hurry and no second set of eyes?   It’s still important to mind your Ps and Qs.   Here are seven quick tips and fixes for reviewing your own words: -           Change the font size    and/or type while you review. o    Perhaps nothing as drastic as the above is needed, but it certainly caught your eye, didn’t it?   There’s something about an error in text that will stick out differently when you’re reading it in Comic Sans .   -           Actually use the spell check feature. o    It can be easy to mentally filter out those little red, blue, and green squiggles, but spell check is your friend. -           Walk away. ...

The Very Hangry Caterpillar

Image
For fun, let's do something different today: A tribute to Eric Carle and my favorite hangry person The Very Hangry Caterpillar In the light of the moon, an egg of a head lay on a pillow. On Saturday morning, the hot unwelcome sun came peeking out too soon – pop! – and out of the bed rolled a large and very hangry dad. He started to look for some food. First, he ate through one banana. But he was still hungry. Next, he ate through two slices of toast. But he was still hungry. Then, he ate through three eggs. But he was still hungry. After that, he ate through four measly berries. He was, of course, still hungry… and hangry. Following that, he tore ravenously through five clementines. But daddy dearest was still hangry. That Saturday, sweet mama fixed him all the food she could find and he ate one blueberry muffin, one Snickers ice cream bar, one bag of beef jerky, one huge hunk of white cheddar, one heaping portion of s...

Let's Go Luna

Image
Human #1, during playing pretend: “No, sister! I want to go to St. Basil’s Cathedral!” It’s safe to say that I rarely get excited about children’s TV programming, but this new show on PBS seems to check all the boxes for me.  Let’s Go Luna! follows three friends, whose parents are in the circus, and their travels with their trusty pal, Luna the Moon.  The above quotation is clearly inspired by a recent episode of Let’s Go Luna! on PBS. It has the qualities of being cute (without being cutesy), gender neutral, and entertaining.  I feel that the characters do a good job of speaking respectfully, while still expressing their thoughts and emotions.  The show also nicely incorporates celebrating cultural diversity.  (And it’s moon-related – we love moon-related anything.) Perhaps even better yet, the focus of the show is on education and travel – two decides passions of mine.  The circus visits various famous places throughout the world and the ...

A Joke For You

Image
What a whirlwind week in the world!   I feel that today many of us could use a little levity. Perhaps this is not a new joke (nor my own), but I think it merits sharing.   So, credited to Sidney Morgenbesser , I bring you this: *hehehe*   Humor is good for the soul. #AnitaVP #linguistics #funny

I ♥ the Internet: Ruin a Book

Let’s be honest.   The internet is awesome.   One of my latest favorites is “Ruin a book in one letter.”    Some of my favs have been: -           Madame Ovary -           Lard of the Flies -           The Old Man and the Spa -           Gone with the Wine Check out these examples for more fun.   Making sure you’ve got all your typos out is clearly key.   It would b so embarrassing if there were a tyop in something you were righting. What book/movie/tv show titles can you ruin with only one letter?   What about famous quotes or expressions? #AnitaVP #ruinabook #fun #typo #gonewiththewine
